Creating a safe space

Code of Conduct:

Public Sweat is a highly embodied experience, as such we strive to create an atmosphere where all body types are welcome. 

We aim to create and maintain a safe space for our participants, which requires the cooperation of all attendees. We recognize that safety looks different for everyone and understand that even though we will do our best, we will always have more to learn.

Art Spin & Public Sweat reserve the right to refuse access or expel any participant who is considered to be acting against our code of conduct for creating a safe space. Staff will be onsite at all times to provide support as needed, please bring any issues or concerns to their attention.

Expected Behaviour:

  • We encourage social interaction while visiting Public Sweat, so long as it is carried out in a respectful and courteous manner.

  • Keep in mind that the impact of your words and actions on other people is more important than your intent, so keep an open mind and humble attitude when called out or corrected for your behaviour

  • Respect your fellow participants’ physical boundaries and privacy.

  • Follow guidelines indicated by signage on site.

Unacceptable Behaviour:

  • No phones or cameras in the saunas or outdoor sauna area, and no photographs or video recording of fellow participants.

  • Using words or actions that are hateful, threatening, racist, sexist, homophobic, classist, transphobic, cissexist or ableist.

  • Oppressive behaviour, which is any conduct that demeans, marginalizes, rejects, threatens or harms anyone on the basis of identity, background, or ability. 

  • Harassing behaviour such as, deliberate intimidation, stalking and/or following, disruption of events, aggressive, derogatory, or threatening comments and unwanted physical contact or sexual attention.

  • Destructive behaviour such as damaging or altering any part of the project, either indoors or outdoors, including furniture, equipment, artwork, or other people’s belongings.
